The Mask

Do not try to seal the mask to your face so tight that it has absolutely no leakage of air . What usually happens if this done is that the mask becomes so tight that the mask cushioning becomes deformed and more leakage will occur. You should be able to find a "happy medium" where the mask leaks a little because it is loose but not too much that the air leaks into your eyes and becomes uncomfortable. Modern PAP devices are designed to compensate for small to moderately sized leaks by speeding up the motor speed.

Sometimes, by attempting to seal the mask too tightly, you may cause a pressure sore on the skin at the bridge of your nose . If this occurs we can provide you with information about protective skin barriers that will allow healing to take place.

If you awaken with acute pain in your eyes and the sensation of a foreign body in one of them, please contact your physician. This is an extremely rare event.

If issues of mask comfort become too much of a problem and you are reluctant to wear the device, please contact us so that we can provide you with alternatives to the nasal mask . There are now two alternatives to the nasal mask; the Adams Circuit and the Monarch Mini Mask.

Weight Control

The PAP machine eliminates the interruptions in your respiration at night regardless of your weight. However, a judicious weight reduction program would be very beneficial for you if you are overweight. Please contact your local physician if you need help with this.

Losing weight will improve your health considerably if you are overweight. It could even allow a decrease in the therapeutic pressure level of your machine. However, if you gain weight, it is possible that you will need an increase of the pressure on the PAP machine.

In some cases, when a client has lost a considerable amount of weight, it has been possible to discontinue the use of PAP altogether. If you lose a substantial amount of weight and you feel that you are getting too much pressure, please contact your physician so that arrangements can be made to readjust your pressure.

Equipment

It is recommended that you follow the manufacture's instructions when using your PAP device. It is also recommended that you change the ultra fine filter every two weeks.

After you wash your mask and tubing, you do not need to dry them completely. When you go to use the device the droplets of water remaining inside the mask and tubing will help humidify the air arriving at your nose.

Make sure that you keep your machine in a dust free area.

If you develop any problems and you or your doctor believes that they are due to the use of the PAP device, please contact us at your earliest convenience.

If the machine stops working or if the mask, tubing, or humidifier breaks, let us know.
